aggion

“AGGION” comes from the Greek word, “Αγγείον” which describes the Ancient Greek vessels made from clay, 3000 bc . Our 21th century’s AGGION, with its warm sound, is not made from clay anymore, but from 1.25mm thick, nitrided steel. Every top and bottom shell is handsunk in order to deliver the finest sound quality. Dimples are hammered with a mallet and tonefields are shaped with a rivet gun, enhancing the bespoken appeal. It comes in the standard 55cm overall diameter and 28-28,5cm height.

Andreas grew up in a musical environment, so he soon became aware of his musical inclination. Being a restless mind, he explored it in many different forms . While studying Naval Architecture at the university of Athens, he started performing as a lead singer with his band at various live stages.

His passion for musical instruments such as the ney, tabla, darbuka etc, led him to become a multi-musician and perform at the side of well known singers. After 15 years of a successful career, but still hungry for new things, he found what he was looking for. The moment he got acquainted with Panart’s Hang® was love at first sight , and the desire was born not to just play, but to create it from scratch.

The project was not easy for Greece’s standards, most of the tools and equipment had to be handmade, such as hammers, a kiln, concrete molds, a hydraulic press, etc. It took 4 years of experiments, lots of frustration, but also accomplishments and gain of knowledge to finish his first instrument, made according to his standards.

eleni

This is how Eleni’s story begins. A true art lover, as a painter and photographer herself, although her studies were in the business field. Having gained her bachelors degree from the American College of Greece as a Total Quality Management major, she began her career in a big multinational consulting firm.

Although she enjoyed her job, she never felt content, a piece was missing. Meeting Andreas, she finally found a way to combine both her artistic and business oriented sides.

Nowadays, Eleni is the person behind Aggion’s public relations, customer service and the one who captures the moments of Aggion through her lenses.
